Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
