Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important official commented the incident rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
